There was no better way to begin the holiday season than by celebrating with Shirli L. Hughes and Ovation! 
This year, we were joined by noted Baltimore soloist, Louis Spencer, acclaimed Philadelphia violinist, Lavar Edmonds and exciting African Drum group, Drum 'n Folk.

Freedom Song was our very special celebration of Black History Month.

This program featured a dynamic combination of praise-filled and uplifting Spirituals, dramatic readings, Liturgical dance and traditional Gospel selections.

Celebrating the opening of the African American Museum of History and Culture in song!

Ovation's own Shirli Hughes is co-directed this fantastic concert of timeless and amazing hymns and traditional Gospel music written by African Americans. The program featured songs by songwriting greats such as Thomas Dorsey, Charles Albert Tindley, Lucie Campbell and others. A special tribute was made to the late, great Clara Ward, with music by Mavelyn Statham, who sang and toured with the Clara Ward Singers.

Ovation soloist Michelle Lanchester was a featured concert soloist.

On Sunday, July 12 at 11am, Westminster Presbyterian in SW DC added an extra dimension to its worship service. Guest preacher Rev. Lori McPherson lead the congregation in a memorable and very special worship service celebrating "marriage equality." The service was enriched with soul-stirring music, featuring Earl-Rodney Holman, Praise and Worship Leader at Unity Fellowship Church of Washington, DC and Willie Montgomery, member of Fifteenth St. Presbyterian Church and soloist with Shirli Hughes and Ovation, who with other soloists and the Westminster Singers, offered up a praise of thanksgiving and adoration.  This amazing celebration of love included a rite of blessing for all married couples.

Summer Soul was our third anniversary concert -- and what a wonderful three years it has been! This year's anniversary concert truly illustrated the great musical versatility of the group.  The program featured a vast array of musical styles and genres, covering everything from traditional gospel and contemporary praise and worship to Broadway and jazz standards.  Special guest musician Thaddeus “Slideovathetop” Cradle. This was one concert you did not want to miss!​

Shirli Hughes and Ovation was at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Palm Sunday for "The Passion, The Gospel, The Blues and the Promise," A Dramatization of the Gospel of Mark. It was the experience of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and his journey to the cross, in dramatic spoken word and inspiring song. 10:45am Special musical prelude by noted Blues artist, Clarence the Blues Man Turner.

Singing Freedom’s Song: Ovation! celebrated and commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. We invited you to bring your heart, bring your voice and bring your acoustic instrument(s) and share in a time of community song as we lifted our voices in the singing of Freedom Songs and Peace Songs, songs that impacted and gave “breath” to the Freedom Movement.
